Soweto Fine Art Gallery was founded in 1996 by Martin G Britz who has exclusively worked in the field of black fine art for the past 27 years. Our speciality lies in the history and works of the Soweto School of Art, the first documented and defined art movement of twentieth century black fine artists to emerge on the African continent. This movement is made up of 26 black fine artists who lived and worked in Soweto during the height of apartheid, their historical artworks portraying Sowetan society's determination and hope for a better tomorrow. The works produced by the Soweto School group of artists are not typically representative of resistance art, their outwardly non-confrontational compositions being bold in colour and ranging in style from abstract to semi-realism.
