HISTORY OF THE LIBRARY The Musgrave Library was founded in 1960 and served users of the suburbs of the Berea, Musgrave, Windermere, Stamford Hill, Toll Gate, Morningside, Stella wood and Glenwood. It was situated on the first floor of the Musgrave Shopping Centre. The historic move in 1980 made the library accessible to all race groups. In August 1991 the library relocated to the second floor of Musgrave Shopping Centre. In 2003 the Library was moved to its current location in Glenwood. COLLECTIONS AND SERVICES OFFERED BY THE LIBRARY The Library comprises of a Children’s Library, an Adult Library, a Cyber Zone, an Audio Visual Section, a Careers Corner, a Business Corner, a Newspaper Reading Area and Group Activities Room. The library has a total stock of 83143 items. The collection comprises of a variety of books, magazines, newspapers, games and toys, DVDs, CDs, talking books, and project files. To cater for special needs, the library has reading material in large print format and talking books. Users have the opportunity place holds on books, and make use of the internet, Wi-Fi and Web based e-mail services. The Library offers printing, photocopying and scanning services as well as a Group Activities room Children’s Library The children’s Library is a very attractive and bustling space in the Library. In addition to books there is a DVD and CD collection for children. It is home to the Moms and Tots programme where mothers spend time with their children playing with educational toys from the toy collection. Children descend on the children’s Library during the school holidays in large numbers to enjoy the outreach activities. Outreach The library hosts age appropriate programs throughout the year, such as pre-school programs, library orientations, holiday programs, and story time, book clubs and reading programs. It engages with schools and participates in system wide programs such as storytelling, creative writing, quiz and spelling bee competitions.
