I qualified as a medical doctor from Wits in 2007. Through the years I gained experience in emergency medicine, rehabilitation medicine, general practice, geriatrics, anatomical pathology, and family medicine. The image of an old-school family doctor is something that I aspire to embody: a general practioner who pulls up a chair and really listens to my patients, giving my patients time to talk without feeling rushed, thinking about the problem with my patients and being a thoughtful problem solver, spending time on a thorough examination without resorting to the shotgun approach of special investigations that is so pervasive these days in the medical world, and being a doctor who really knows you (and your family). I provide a level of care for my patients that is not readily available at other GP practices. I will generally liaise with specialists on behalf of my patients before referrals are done, and I usually try to make bookings with specialists and radiology facilities on my patients' behalf to ensure quick and efficient management with as little as possible effort required by my patients. Research has shown that spending more than 20 minutes with a patient provides the best level of care with the most positive outcomes. I therefore structure consultations to accommodate at least 30-minute-long consultations. This allows us to discuss your condition in more depth and will empower you to understand your condition better and to make better-informed decisions regarding your treatment.
