Prostate artery embolization is performed by Dr. Andrew Lawson and his interventional team which includes the urology services. Dr Lawson is a radiologist with a particular interest in PAE. He has been trained by the international pioneers in PAE and has facilitated local workshops in South Africa where international experts attend and oversee the procedures thereby offering his patients first-hand expert care. PAE is a technically challenging procedure with the potential risks of major complications such as blocking the blood flow to the penis, the bladder and rectum with potential disastrous consequences. Dr Lawson’s team and their training has been such that these potential complications are minimized in their hands.
