Who are we? Established in 1974, we are the first and only Futures Research Institute on the African continent. What do we do? The IFR’s calling is to deliver global impact research for innovative, long-range decision-making in Africa. As the future grows rapidly more uncertain, we offer assistance in developing senior leaders to anticipate major shifts in the competitive environment and identify emerging opportunities. Why? Africa is complex and often paradoxical. It has wealth, yet it has vast inequality. It has leading educational institutions, yet, education levels are low. Security is prominent in many private homes, yet many people feel unsafe. It has had one of the greatest leaders who ever lived, yet leadership remains one of its greatest challenges. Considering the possible futures of this beautiful continent can be a challenging task. IFR Services Our researchers produce a series of publications and events that enable senior decision-makers to make more informed decisions for their organisations and other stakeholders. We scan across six themes, namely: the new world of business, social capital, sustainability, security, technology & innovation and the art & science of decision-making. In addition, we include the following publications: Friday@Noon, SCAN and the comprehensive compendium Business Futures. Our interactive events include breakfast meetings, workshops on future methods and an annual conference, all aimed to inspire dialogue and empower delegates to enhance the quality of their thinking.
